EV Charger Installation Liverpool
7.4kW smart home charger supplied and fitted from £899. Everything included. Fixed price after free site survey. Wake up to a full charge every morning.
Why Charge at Home Instead of a Public Charger?
Public charging in Liverpool has grown but it is still inconsistent — chargers are busy, sometimes broken and always more expensive than charging at home. A home charger changes everything. You plug in when you arrive home, it charges overnight, and you wake up to a full battery every morning without thinking about it.
The cost difference is significant. Charging at home on a standard tariff costs around 24p per kWh. On an EV-specific overnight tariff it can drop to 7p or 8p per kWh. Compare that to rapid public chargers at 60p to 80p per kWh and the home charger pays for itself within the first year of ownership for most drivers.

The Installation Includes
What Can Affect Your Installation Price?
Most Liverpool properties are straightforward at £899. Some need additional work. We identify and quote everything transparently at your free site survey — there are never surprise charges on installation day.
Cable Run Over 10m
If your consumer unit is on the opposite side of the house to your driveway, the cable run will exceed the included 10m. This is the most common reason a quote exceeds the standard price, particularly in Liverpool terraces where the fuse box is at the back and the car parks at the front.
Consumer Unit Away from Exterior Wall
In many Liverpool Victorian terraces, the fuse box is positioned in a central hallway or under the stairs — a long way from the front driveway. Cable must be routed carefully through internal walls, floor voids or surface-mounted trunking to reach the charger. We always find the neatest route and quote it transparently.
No Spare Space in Consumer Unit
An EV charger needs a dedicated 32-amp breaker in your consumer unit. If your fuse board is full with all ways occupied, we install a small 2-way enclosure alongside the existing board to house the breaker. This is common in older Liverpool properties with smaller consumer units installed years ago.
Inadequate Earthing
An EV charger draws significantly more sustained current than typical household appliances. If your property's earthing does not meet current regulations — such as an undersized main earth conductor or missing bonding on gas and water pipes — this must be upgraded before the charger can be safely installed. We assess earthing at every site survey.
Cable Through Solid Walls
Liverpool's older housing stock includes many properties with thick solid brick or stone walls. Drilling through these walls for cable routes takes longer and requires specialist equipment. Listed buildings and conservation area properties may also have restrictions on how cables can be routed externally.
Groundworks or Trenching
If your parking is in a detached garage or the cable route must cross a driveway, garden or path, underground conduit may be required. We quote this separately after assessing the route at the site survey. This adds both material and labour cost but is sometimes the only practical and tidy solution.
Every additional cost is identified at your free site survey and confirmed in writing before we begin. You will never receive an unexpected invoice after installation day. If we find something unexpected during the work, we stop, explain and agree a price before continuing.
How Fast Will It Charge My Car?
A 7.4kW home charger is the right choice for the vast majority of Liverpool homeowners. Here is what to expect from each option.
A standard 13-amp plug socket. Slow and not designed for regular EV charging. A 60kWh battery takes 25 hours or more to charge. Only suitable for occasional top-ups.
The standard home charging solution. Overnight charge of 8 hours adds 200 to 240 miles. Plug in when you get home from work and your car is ready the next morning. The right choice for almost every Liverpool home.
Three-phase power is rarely available in UK residential properties. Upgrading a Liverpool home costs £2,000 to £15,000 and is almost never cost-effective when a 7.4kW charger already covers overnight charging perfectly well.
Is There a Government Grant Available?
The honest answer about who can and cannot claim.
You May Qualify If You Are:
- A renter with dedicated off-street parking
- An owner in a flat or apartment building
- A landlord installing chargers for tenants
The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant covers up to £500 per charger. Extended until March 2027. We handle the application on your behalf as part of the installation.
You Are Unlikely to Qualify If You Are:
- A homeowner with your own driveway
- Purchasing a charger for your own home
The individual homeowner grant ended in March 2022. Most Liverpool homeowners pay the full installation cost. At £899 with 30 miles of range per hour added, it still pays for itself within the first year compared to public charging.
Numbers That Actually Matter:
- Public rapid charger: 60–80p per kWh
- Home overnight tariff: 7–24p per kWh
- Saving for 10,000 miles per year: £800 to £1,200
Your £899 charger pays for itself within the first year for most EV owners. After that, every year saves hundreds compared to relying on public charging points.

Liverpool's housing stock presents specific challenges that national installers do not always account for. We know these properties inside out.
Victorian and Edwardian Terraces
The majority of Anfield, Wavertree, Toxteth and Aigburth. Consumer units are typically positioned centrally under the stairs — a long way from the front driveway. Thick solid brick walls require more care when drilling. We quote accurately for all of this at the free site survey rather than surprising you after installation.
1960s and 1970s Semis
Very common across West Derby, Childwall and Norris Green. These properties often have older consumer units with limited spare capacity. Some have outdated earthing that needs upgrading. The good news is that consumer units in these properties are often near the garage or driveway — making the cable route simpler and shorter.
Modern Builds and New Developments
Newer Liverpool properties typically have modern consumer units with available capacity, good earthing and accessible cable routes to the driveway. These are usually the most straightforward installations at or close to the standard £899 price with minimal additional costs.

Straight answers to what Liverpool EV owners ask most.
COSTHow much does EV charger installation cost in Liverpool?
Our standard EV charger installation in Liverpool is £899 supply and fit. This includes a 7.4kW smart home charger, a dedicated circuit from your consumer unit, up to 10m of cable, commissioning and an Electrical Installation Certificate. Some properties need additional work for cable runs over 10m, consumer unit upgrades, earthing improvements or complex cable routes. All of this is identified and quoted in writing at your free site survey before any work begins.
STANDARDWhat counts as a standard EV charger installation?
A standard installation assumes your consumer unit has a spare 32-amp breaker available, the cable run from the consumer unit to the charger is under 10m, your property's earthing meets current regulations, and there are no significant obstacles in the cable route such as solid stone walls or groundworks. This covers the majority of modern and semi-modern Liverpool properties. At the free site survey we confirm everything.
SPEEDHow many miles per hour does a 7kW charger add?
A 7.4kW home charger adds approximately 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. An overnight charge of 8 hours adds 200 to 240 miles for most electric vehicles. This is more than enough for most daily driving — the average UK driver covers around 20 to 30 miles per day. Compare this to a standard 3-pin plug which adds only 3 to 5 miles per hour.
GRANTIs there a government grant available?
The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant of up to £500 is available until March 2027 but only for renters with dedicated parking, flat owners and landlords. Standard homeowners with a driveway are not eligible — the individual homeowner grant ended in 2022. We advise on your specific eligibility at the site survey and handle all paperwork for qualifying households.
LEGALCan a normal electrician install an EV charger?
No. EV charger installation is notifiable work under Part P building regulations and must be carried out by a qualified registered electrician who can certify the work. Uncertified installation can invalidate your home insurance, void the charger warranty and create a genuine safety risk. All our engineers are NICEIC approved with specific EV charger installation experience across Liverpool.
PLANNINGDo I need planning permission in Liverpool?
No. Standard EV charger installation is permitted development and does not require planning permission. Properties in Liverpool conservation areas such as parts of Sefton Park, Rodney Street or the Georgian Quarter may have restrictions on how external cabling is routed or concealed. We check this at the site survey and advise on the best approach.
FUSEBOARDWhat if my fuse box is full with no spare space?
If your consumer unit has no spare capacity for a dedicated 32-amp breaker, we install a small 2-way enclosure alongside the existing board to house the EV charger circuit. This adds approximately £80 to £150 to the installation cost and is identified at the free site survey. It is a common requirement in older Liverpool properties with smaller consumer units that were installed years ago.
