What Can Affect Your Installation Price?

Most Liverpool properties are straightforward at £699. Some need additional work. We identify and quote everything at your free site survey. There are never surprise charges on installation day.

MOST COMMON

Cable Run Over 10m

If your consumer unit is on the opposite side of the house from your driveway, the cable will go over 10m. This is the most common reason a quote exceeds the standard price. It is common in Liverpool terraces. The fuse box sits at the back and the car parks at the front.

Typical additional cost: £50 to £150
COMMON

Fuse Box Far from Driveway

In many Victorian Liverpool terraces, the consumer unit is in a central hallway or under the stairs. Cable must be routed carefully through internal walls or floor voids. We always find the neatest route and quote it up front before starting.

Typical additional cost: £50 to £200
SOMETIMES

No Spare Space in Consumer Unit

An EV charger needs a dedicated 32-amp breaker. If your fuse board is full, we install a small enclosure alongside the existing board. Common in older Liverpool properties with smaller consumer units.

Typical additional cost: £80 to £150
SOMETIMES

Inadequate Earthing

An EV charger draws significant sustained current. If your property earthing does not meet current regulations, it must be upgraded before installation. We assess earthing at every site survey.

Typical additional cost: £80 to £250
LESS COMMON

Cable Through Solid Walls

Many older Liverpool properties have thick solid brick walls. Drilling takes longer and requires specialist equipment. Listed buildings may also have restrictions on external cabling.

Typical additional cost: £50 to £150
LESS COMMON

Groundworks or Trenching

If parking is in a detached garage or the cable crosses a driveway or garden, underground conduit may be needed. Quoted as extras after assessing the route at the site survey.

Typical additional cost: £150 to £400
Our promise:

Every additional cost is identified at your free site survey and put in writing before we begin. You will never receive an unexpected invoice after installation day.

Best for Solar Homes

Zappi by myenergi

The Zappi is the only mainstream home charger designed to work with solar panels. Three modes: Fast (grid only), Eco (solar plus grid top-up), Eco+ (solar surplus only).

If you have solar panels: A typical Liverpool home with a 4kW solar array charges 30 to 50 miles per day in summer. All from solar. Cost per mile is close to zero.

Best for: Homes with solar panels · Starting at £799 supply and fit
Best for Smart Tariff Scheduling

Ohme Home Pro

The Ohme connects directly to your energy tariff and sets charging at the cheapest times. If you are on Intelligent Octopus or Agile Octopus, the Ohme talks directly to your tariff provider. It optimises every charge without you doing anything. Ideal for drivers who want simple automation while keeping running costs as low as possible.

Best for: Smart tariff users and Octopus Energy customers
Best for Compact Installations

Easee One

The Easee is the most compact smart charger available. It is a popular choice where wall space is tight or where the install needs to look as neat as possible. Clean Scandinavian design, full smart features and a tidy cable system. A strong choice for modern Liverpool flats and new builds.

Best for: New builds, apartments and space-limited installs
Best Robust All-Rounder

Rolec WallPod

The Rolec is a UK-manufactured workhorse charger widely used in both domestic and commercial settings. It is compact, weatherproof, extremely reliable and straightforward to use. For customers who want a simple, durable charger without premium smart features, the Rolec is excellent value. It is one of the most trusted names in the UK EV charging market.

Best for: Reliability and straightforward use
Best Warranty · 5 Years

Project EV

Project EV is a UK brand offering the longest standard warranty in the market at 5 years. Their Pro Earth range removes the need for a separate earth rod. This cuts cost in properties where earthing upgrades would otherwise be needed. Dynamic load balancing is built in as standard, and the charger works with solar panels.

Best for: Long warranty · Solar homes · Properties needing load balancing
Best Budget Option

Masterplug

Masterplug is the most budget-friendly wallbox we install. Made by Luceco, an established UK electrical brand, it delivers 7.4kW charging with solar compatibility and IP55 weatherproofing. It uses the Monta app. This gives you access to over 300,000 public chargers across Europe from one account. A solid entry-level choice if budget is the priority.

Best for: Budget-conscious buyers · Monta app users · Simple installations

Why Charge at Home Instead of a Public Charger?

Public chargers in Liverpool are busy, sometimes broken and always expensive. Home charging fixes all of that.

Plug in your electric car when you get home, wake up to a full battery every morning. On an Intelligent Octopus overnight tariff you pay around 7p per kWh. Public rapid chargers cost 60p to 80p. The charger pays for itself within the first year for most drivers.

Your smart charger can be scheduled to charge at the cheapest time of day. We set up the app on your phone during installation so you are saving from day one.

Will My £699 Charger Pay for Itself?

Honest numbers about your real-world running costs.

Most Liverpool homeowners pay the full £699.

The good news: at typical UK driving distances and overnight tariff rates, your charge point pays for itself in the first year. After that you save hundreds of pounds every year compared to relying on public rapid chargers.

The Real Saving for Most Drivers

  • Public rapid charger: 60-80p per kWh
  • Home overnight tariff: 7-24p per kWh
  • Typical annual saving (10,000 miles): £800 to £1,200

Your £699 charger pays for itself within the first year for most EV owners. After that every year saves hundreds.

Bonus: £500 Grant if You Qualify

  • Renters with dedicated off-street parking
  • Owners in flats or apartment buildings
  • Landlords installing for tenants

The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant is £500 per charger from 1 April 2026 until March 2027. We handle the full application on your behalf at no extra charge.

EV Charger Installation in Liverpool Homes

Liverpool housing stock has specific challenges that national installers often do not account for. We know these properties inside out.

Victorian and Edwardian Terraces

Anfield, Wavertree, Toxteth and Aigburth. Consumer units are usually central, a long way from the front driveway. Solid brick walls need more care when drilling. We quote accurately for all of this at the free site survey.

1960s and 1970s Semis

Common across West Derby, Childwall and Norris Green. Older consumer units sometimes have limited spare capacity or outdated earthing. The upside is that the consumer unit is often near the garage or driveway, keeping cable routes short.

Modern Builds and New Developments

Newer Liverpool properties usually have modern consumer units, good earthing and accessible cable routes. These are usually the most straightforward installations at or close to the standard £699 price.

No planning permission needed

Standard EV charger installation is permitted development in Liverpool. Conservation area properties may need to consider how external cabling is concealed. We advise at the site survey.

EV Charger Installation Questions Liverpool

Straight answers to what Liverpool EV owners ask most.

COSTHow much does EV charger installation cost in Liverpool?

Our standard 7.4kW EV charger installation starts from £699 supply and fit. This includes the smart charger, a dedicated circuit and up to 10m of cable. DNO sign-off, setup, app setup and an Electrical Installation Certificate are all included too. Properties needing longer cable runs, consumer unit upgrades or earthing work are priced at the free site survey. You see the full cost before any work begins. Read our full EV charger installation guide for the complete picture.

BRANDSWhich EV charger brand should I choose?

If you have solar panels, the Zappi is the clear choice. It charges using surplus solar energy in Eco or Eco+ mode. If you are on Intelligent Octopus or want smart tariff optimisation, the Ohme is excellent. The Easee is the most compact option for apartments or tight spaces. The Rolec is a robust, reliable all-rounder. We advise on the right fit for your specific property and lifestyle at the free site survey.

SPEEDHow many miles per hour does a 7kW charger add?

A 7.4kW home charger adds approximately 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. An overnight charge of 8 hours adds 200 to 240 miles for most electric vehicles. The average UK driver covers 20 to 30 miles per day so overnight charging is more than sufficient.

GRANTIs there a government grant for EV charger installation?

The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant increased to £500 per charger from 1 April 2026 and runs until March 2027. It is available to renters with dedicated parking, flat owners and landlords. Standard homeowners with their own driveway are not eligible as that grant ended in 2022. For businesses, the Workplace Charging Scheme also increased to £500 per socket from April 2026. We handle all applications for qualifying customers.

DNOWhat is DNO approval and do I need to do anything?

DNO stands for Distribution Network Operator. For Liverpool that is SP Energy Networks. Before installing a 7.4kW home charger, your installer must tell the DNO. They notify them of the extra load being added to the network. This is a standard notification, not an application for permission, and is almost always automatically approved. We handle the full DNO notification process on your behalf at no extra charge as part of every installation. You do not need to do anything. Some installers pass this task to the homeowner or leave it undone entirely. We always handle it.

LEGALCan a normal electrician install an EV charger?

No. EV charger installation is notifiable work under Part P Building Regulations. It must be signed off by a qualified registered electrician. It also needs NICEIC approval and OLEV approved installer status (now OZEV) for grant work. Uncertified installation voids your charger warranty and can invalidate your home insurance.

ZAPPIDoes the Zappi charger work with solar panels?

Yes. The Zappi by myenergi is built for solar homes. Fast mode uses grid power only. Eco mode uses surplus solar and tops up from the grid. Eco+ mode charges only when surplus solar is free. On a sunny day in Liverpool you can charge for free. A typical 4kW solar array charges 30 to 50 miles of range per day in summer. The cost is close to zero. We install Zappi chargers across all Liverpool postcodes.
