Why Professional Fitting Matters
Fitting a light yourself looks straightforward. These are the reasons it is worth doing properly.
LED lights often require a specific transformer or driver that differs from what was used with the old fitting. Using the wrong driver can cause flickering, reduced lifespan or in some cases a fire risk. We identify and fit the correct driver for your specific light.
If you have dimmer switches, standard trailing-edge dimmers designed for incandescent bulbs will not work correctly with LED lights. You may get flickering, buzzing or the lights may not dim at all. We check compatibility and install LED-rated dimmers where needed.
Certain electrical work is notifiable under Part P building regulations. This affects work in bathrooms and any new circuit installation. Uncertified electrical work can invalidate your home insurance and cause problems when you sell. We provide all certificates required.
LED spotlights in ceilings require fire-rated downlight covers where they penetrate between floors. Without them, a fire can spread rapidly between storeys. We install fire hoods as standard on all recessed downlight installations.
Types of Lighting We Install
From a single pendant to a complete whole-house LED upgrade. If it has a wire, we can fit it.
LED downlights are the most popular fitting we install across Liverpool homes. We cut the ceiling, run cable, fit fire-rated canisters and install your chosen spotlights.
Single and multi-pendant drops, kitchen island pendants, statement pendants over dining tables. We handle the ceiling rose, cable and canopy.
Large and heavy chandeliers require a secure ceiling mount point and often need building on site. We handle structural assessment, fitting and levelling.
IP-rated fittings for bathroom zones. We ensure the correct IP rating for each zone and provide the certificate required for bathroom electrical work.
LED strip or puck lighting under kitchen cabinets. Transformer in the cabinet, clean wiring hidden from view. Switched or sensor-operated.
Outdoor wall lights, post lights, soffit spotlights and pathway lighting. IP65 rated for outdoor use with weather-proof wiring and switched circuits.
LED-compatible dimmer switches fitted to any lighting circuit. We advise on the right dimmer for your specific bulbs and install them cleanly.
Philips Hue, LIFX and other smart lighting systems require compatible switches and sometimes bridge wiring. We set it up correctly first time.
Why Switch to LED Lighting?
If your Liverpool property still has halogen spotlights, incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes, switching to LED is one of the easiest ways to cut energy bills.
LED bulbs use up to 80 percent less electricity than incandescent bulbs for the same light output
Quality LED bulbs last up to 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs, reducing replacement costs significantly
Incandescent bulbs release 90 percent of their energy as heat. LEDs stay cool, making them safer and more comfortable
A typical Liverpool home switching all lighting to LED can save up to £200 per year on energy bills
Benefits for Homes

Benefits for Businesses

- Better light quality improves workplace comfort and productivity
- Lower carbon footprint supporting sustainability targets

Fluorescent Tubes Are Now Banned
Important for Liverpool businesses and commercial landlords.
T8 Fluorescent Tubes Phased Out
2ft, 4ft and 5ft T8 fluorescent tubes can no longer be sold or installed in the UK. Halogen G4, G9 and GY6.35 capsule lamps were also outlawed. If your property still uses T8 tubes, they will need replacing when the current stock runs out.
Compact Fluorescent and T5 Tubes
All remaining T8 and T5 style lamps were banned due to their mercury content. All sizes of compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) are now prohibited from sale or installation. Every banned lamp type has a direct LED replacement available at comparable cost.
Plan Your Upgrade Now
If you have fluorescent lighting in your Liverpool business premises, office, warehouse or rental property, planning your LED upgrade proactively is far cheaper than an emergency replacement when your current tubes fail and cannot be replaced. We provide free quotes for commercial LED upgrades across Liverpool.

Straight answers about getting lights fitted in Liverpool.
FITTINGCan I buy my own lights and have you fit them?
Yes, absolutely. This is the most common thing we are called for. Buy your lights from anywhere — Amazon, Screwfix, B&Q, IKEA, a specialist lighting shop — and we come and fit them. We charge £80 for a single light, £60 per light for 2 to 4 lights, and £55 per light for 5 or more. Complex fittings like chandeliers are £100 each.
SAFETYWhy do I need an electrician to fit LED lights?
LED lights often require specific transformers or drivers that differ from traditional fittings. Standard dimmers do not work with most LEDs. Some installations are notifiable under Part P building regulations and require certification for insurance and building control. We also fit fire-rated downlight covers on recessed spotlights, which prevents fire spreading between floors.
DIMMERSWill my existing dimmers work with LED lights?
Not always. Standard trailing-edge dimmers designed for incandescent bulbs often cause LED lights to flicker, buzz or fail to dim properly. You need a leading-edge or specifically LED-compatible dimmer. We check your existing dimmers when we visit and advise whether they need replacing. LED dimmer switches cost very little to replace.
SAVINGSHow much energy do LED lights save?
LED lights use up to 80 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last up to 25 times longer. A typical Liverpool home switching all lighting to LED saves between £100 and £200 per year on energy bills. For businesses with large commercial premises the savings can be in the thousands annually.
LEGALAre fluorescent tubes now illegal?
Yes. T8 fluorescent tubes were phased out from September 2023 and can no longer be sold or installed in the UK. T5 and compact fluorescent lamps followed in February 2024. If your Liverpool business still uses fluorescent lighting, the tubes will need replacing when they fail as replacements can no longer be legally purchased. LED tubes are the direct replacement and offer significantly lower running costs.
BATHROOMCan you fit lights in a bathroom?
Yes. Bathroom lighting is notifiable work under Part P and requires an Electrical Installation Certificate. We fit IP-rated lights appropriate to each bathroom zone — Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2 each require different IP ratings. We provide the required certificate on completion.
